Warmachine and Hordes Vassal Tournament!!!

Oh boy, almost a month and no blog post in sight.  I guess I better write about this little tournament I organized then.

First of all, Vassal is a program that lets you play your favorite table top games against each other over the internet.  Because the program only simulates the table itself and doesn't give actual rules, the company has managed to be virtually free of lawsuits.
Anyway, I was inspired to run this thing by a certain blog on Rankings HQ.  http://www.rankingshq.com/public/blog.aspx?BlogId=85

This sort of thing is ideal for an aspiring university student like me, as it allows me to have games with people who live in different cities hundreds of kilometers away.  The tournament was supposed to take place over the course of the weekend, but some people were not able to work the four games required into their schedule.

The tournament was a relatively small affair; just me and four friends.  I decided that a round robin system would be the most straightforward to organize, then rolled up some semi-random scenarios  from Steamroller 2011 and picked some of Vassal's built in maps to play on.  As a group we decided on doing a two list 35 point set up.

The players:
1)Me, using my Retribution of Scyrah
2)Adam (half of the War and More Radio team), using Menoth
3)John (the second half of said podcast team), using Cygnar
4)Chris (roommate #1), using a single Cryx list
5)Steven (roommate #2/brother), using Legion

Since half of my opponents share a house with me, I was theoretically able to play against them in real life.  The map I picked for my game with Chris was too complicated for us to set up though, so we did it on the computer.

As of now, the standings are:

Adam Chris Jacob John Steven Total
Adam x L W 0 L 1
Chris 0 x L W W 2
Jacob L W x 0 L 1
John 0 L 0 x 0 0
Steven W L W 0 x 1

How to read this chart: Pick a player on the left side.  Going right shows their result against the player at the top of the column. W=win, L=loss, 0=no game yet, and x=can't play yourself.  The total column shows how many wins people have so far.
