Warmachine Break

You are probably wondering why I have a Warmachine post in the middle of my fervent preparations for the Team OP tournament.  Don't worry, I'm a bit of a multitasker.  Work will resume on my Guardsmen tomorrow.

This is (almost) the end of the top of turn three in a game I played on Vassal today.  The units in yellow are units that I am not allowed to attack with because of Skarre II's feat.  At this point Rahn has two damage points left and corrosion, because of the witches + a spell of Skarre's transferring damage done to my Phoenix to him.  The only reason he is still alive is that the jack died too quickly.  I'm going to let you guess who won this game as I show the lists involved.

Skarre, Queen of the Broken Coast
The Deathjack
Full Bile Thralls
Full Bane Thralls with UA
Full Satyxis Raiders with UA

VS

Adeptis Rahn Shyeel
Phoenix
Full Halberdiers with UA
House Shyeel Battle Mages
Stormfall Archers
Arcanist
House Shyeel Artificer
Fane Knight Skyrith Issyen
Eiryss, Angel of the Retribution

The Cryx list was an experiment of my friend's to try and add some anti infantry and try out Skarre.  I also was trying to mix things up a bit by switching my Chimera and Mage Hunter Assassin for Issyan and the Artificer.  I didn't really notice the difference though, as the game was decided by a different unit.  Did you figure out who won yet?

Yep, with their astonishingly high range of 16" and all of the teleporting Rahn could manage the archers managed to finish off Skarre.  She had taken three points of damage on turn two from some slam collateral damage and four points of damage from her feat.  Three of my four archers had the aiming bonus and only needed nines to hit, the fourth needed an 11.  My rolls are documented below.
Archer 1 (At a distance of 15.8 inches!):  9 to hit, 7 for damage --> four points of damage
Archer 2: 7 to hit (needed an 11) --> missed, forgot to do the deviation
Archer 3: 8 to hit --> missed, forgot to do the deviation
Archer 4: 10 to hit, 10 for damage --> 7 points of damage.  WIN!

Moral of the story: Never be afraid to go for the long shot.  Also, if my opponent had taken one more point of damage he could have made Skarre un-targetable with her feat.  Don't forget to protect your caster ;)
